I recently completed my private, instrument, and commercial training at Flight Test Prep Academy and had a fantastic experience. The instructors are highly knowledgeable and genuinely care about their students’ progress, and the school keeps its airplanes reliable and well-maintained thanks to their in-house maintenance. Tom, the owner, is an educator at heart and holds the team to a high standard, which really shows in the quality of instruction. I also appreciated the free study sessions—they were a great way to learn from others and build community.
I’ve flown out of their new Fullerton location as well, and it’s impressive: clean and modern. The aircraft rental and CFI rates are very fair, and thanks to a combination of great instructors and those study sessions, I finished my ratings well below the national average cost. I’m planning to complete my CFI here too.
Overall, an excellent school with a supportive environment for anyone looking to start or continue their aviation journey. 5 stars!

I recently obtained my private pilot certificate here at Flight Test Prep Academy. Pilots of any age looking to start their journey should give this business top consideration.
My instructors (primary, ground, and stage check airmen) were all excellent. They teach to very high standards, wether airborne or in the classroom. The three-day accelerated ground courses to prep for the knowledge tests are extremely useful and a good value. Having a simulator lab available for use is an great resource to hone airmanship skills without spending hundreds of extra dollars while in the airplane, and the benefits are noticeable. Most importantly, the community of student pilots and instructors there is an invaluable source of knowledge; group discussion and peer reviews are regular and well worth the time spent.
The in-house pilot shop has hundreds of items a pilot will need for flight and study. I was always able to find a book that I needed, or acquire flight gear on short notice. The dispatchers/shop staff are friendly, communicative, and prompt.
I highly recommend booking a discovery flight and seeing everything that this school has to offer. I’ll be continuing my training here for my instrument rating in the near future.
