Noise Abatement

Flight Test Prep Academy is committed to flying safely and neighbourly

Fly Friendly SoCal logo showing we have taken and adhere to the Fly Friendly pledge to fly neighbourly and quietly

Long Beach, Fullerton and the surrounding areas are densely populated and we know that small changes in our flying can have a big impact on the surrounding communities. Here are some ways we are working to fly quietly:

  • All of our students, CFI’s, and Renters are briefed on Long Beach Airport noise abatement procedures

  • We have taken the Fly Friendly SoCal pledge

  • We work closely with the Long Beach Airport Noise Commission and Airport Operations to study our flying and make adjustments where needed

  • We receive quarterly reports on the activity of our fleet

  • We base the vast majority of our KLGB operations on runway 26L where impact to the community is lessened

Weekdays 7:00am-7:00pm
Weekends 8:00am-3:00pm

Voluntary noise abatement procedures in effect: Fly friendly!

Weekdays 7:00pm-7:00am
Weekends 3:00pm-8:00am
Holidays

The following are prohibited:

  • Touch-and-go

  • Stop-and-go

For more information see LBMC Chapter 16.43

Voluntary Noise Abatement Procedures:

  • No pattern work on any runways after 10:00pm (including full-stop taxi-backs)

  • For any pattern work after 10:00pm use runway 30/12

How to fly a friendly pattern

  • Use full length of Runway, and full power on departure.

  • Use Best Procedures to Maximize Climb on departure.

  • Fly the patterns at published altitudes – 1,000’ AGL

    • When able, implement crosswind turns at 500’ MSL on departure

    • Otherwise fly the upwind leg to 1000’ MSL on departure before turning crosswind/downwind

    • Limit the width of the downwind leg to no more than ½ mile from runway centerlines of Runway 08L/26R and Runway 08R/26L use visual cues

      • Runway 8L/26R – Align Downwind over Carson Street

      • Runway 8R/26 – Align Downwind over Willow Street

  • Distribute flight activity based on demand and optimize the use of both 26L and 26R as the prevailing runways to best avoid residential areas

  • Adhere to all Long Beach Municipal Code Airport Noise Ordinance Regulations

  • Aircraft executing procedures other than full stop landings are encouraged to use the normal touchdown zone to maximize runway useable distances
